The Hemlata Foundation has inaugurated a new Vocational Training Hub in Purnia that will offer skills training to 200 women every year across three key sectors: tailoring and fashion design, beautician and wellness services, and food processing and packaging.

The 3,000 sq ft facility, funded through a generous CSR grant from a Kolkata-based textile company, is equipped with 40 industrial sewing machines, a professional beauty parlour setup, and a certified food processing lab with packaging equipment.

The hub runs 6-month certificate courses with 70% practical training component. Graduates receive a recognized certificate and are connected to job placement or self-employment support through Hemlata's livelihood network.

"In Purnia, women's workforce participation rate is just 18%," said Foundation CEO Sunita Devi. "Every woman who completes this program represents a potential income of ₹8,000-15,000 per month — a life-changing amount for her family."

The first batch of 60 women enrolled within 3 days of registration opening, with a waiting list of 95. Hemlata has responded by adding an evening batch for women who have family responsibilities during the day.

Microfinance partnerships have been arranged for graduates wanting to start small businesses. Three women from the inaugural batch have already received ₹50,000 loans to set up home-based tailoring units.
